What would be the best all around scope for a Marlin 1895 SBL 45-70? I was thinking an Aimpoint... what do you guys think?

A low power variable, something in the 1-4x20 range would be great.

I plan to use the gun for big game hunting, occasionally for coyotes, and to shoot at the range. I was looking at Aimpoints and Trijicons but was wondering what others thought would be best.

I like the Super Sniper 1-4x24 and the Trijicon AccuPoint 1-4x24

The Trijicon is a little short on eye relief in my opinion for a beast like the 45-70. I have bad both the SS and Accupoint, both excellent scopes.

Put something with A LOT of eye relief on this. I had a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 and the muzzle had a tendency to jump, causing the scope to close the distance to my eye very quickly as a result of the way the gun recoiled. I had a Nikon 1x4x20 Monarch African on the rifle and I still got tapped several times depending on what position I shot the rifle in.

Lots of eye relief above all else
I'd look into one of the Scout Rifle scopes that mount in front of the reviever.

That was my thought also I like iron sights on a lever action rifle. I guess if one used the low 30mm rings from LaRue one could quick detach an Aimpoint 9000L and mount the scope forward but some rifle I just like the irons on this one in particular because the rear sight is a peep sight which works better for me at this age than the standard V rear sights.
