Thinking about this scope or the 3-9x50 for my muzzle loader. (I could also move my Leupold 3-9x40 VXR over to the ML and use this one on my 270 Win.) Is the larger objective of the 50 worth the extra $100? Is there another scope in the $500-$600 range that I'm overlooking? I'm not looking for another VX-R. Mine seems to have veiling flare issues that are irritating. ETA: ML range is 200 yds or under, Rifle range is 350 or under. Illuminated reticle is not a requirement. Frankly, I haven't found it all that helpful.

Hard to go wrong with a MeoPro. I used to use 50mm scopes but went away from them because of bulk and weight. 40-44mm does everything I need even late. Just play musical scopes (like musical chairs) until you get the combo you like. Seems like I do it with a few rifles every year.

Thanks for that. My very first scope was a Leupold Vari-X II, 3-9x50 that I bought in 2000. I still have (and like) that scope. I've never found the 50mm objective problematic.

I have seen that on the Leupold scopes I own that are on their lower end glass wise. VX-3 and up it seems to stop with my 3 samples. But my VX-r does it, my fx-II, VX-I. Very irritating when you are using it for hunting and point in at an animal in the general direction of the sun and the whole scope whites out.

I run mine with the 3" sun shade attached. It helps, but doesn't cure it. ETA: It looks like the 3-9x50 is my only option if I want Meopta. The 3-9x40 #4 is vaporware.

Backordered it today. Meopta has ONE in stock. Now we see if our gracious hosts can get ahold of it before it disappears.
Fingers crossed!

Good news! Our Gracious Hosts were able to get their sticky little fingers on the last 3-9x50, #4 that Meopta had stateside. Kudos to Allison, Michael and Jamie for making that happen. I'm going to compare the Meopta to my Leupold VXR 3-9x40 with them side by side before I decide where the new scope goes, but I'm thinking that I'll put the Meopta on my 270 Win. and move the Leupy over to the muzzle loader. The 270 has worn a 3-9x50 before, and the size of the scope never bothered me. (Sig SHR 970 in case you're wondering) |
