Do you think a buck gold 4-16x56 will be able to clear the top of the barrel on a remington 700 with high rings? Ive asked a fellow target shooting friend and he said that it will on a one piece base, but this worries me because I have a pretty low two piece base(leupold QRW base and PRW high rings .480".) According to this chart, i should be okay with the high rings even if the objective bell goes off the chart. http://www.midwayusa.com/midwayusa/staticpages/charts/ring_height.htm I was going to originally go with a trs-1 but I'm a little worried about my bolt hitting the magnification ring.  Ive seen that this and a few other issues with the trs-1 will be fixed in the 2009 version, but I have yet to find a place selling the 2009 version of the trs-1 or else I would have jumped it already.

I would like to stick with millett, so please dont tell me to go with Nikon, Bushnell, etc. But if you absolutely must suggest a different scope for me, I would atleast like target turrets(used to dialing em in) a adjustable magnification of atleast 14x(eyes getting old) and priced under $350.

Thank you for taking your time to read this.

With the high rings you should have plenty of clearance...
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

Hello

A little math.

take the height of the base, add the height of the rings. take 1/2 the tube diameter add that to base and ring height.  that total is the over all height.   take I/2 the objective dia that has to be less then the clearence.

base height             .300"
ringe height             .320
tube 1 "                   .500
total                       +1.120

Scope bell  62mm   - .787

clearence                .333"

thats without any barrel tapper.

Hope this is useful
