I've put together the beginnings of an application that will:
  • Show how an FFP reticle works as you zoom in or out (reticle changing size, FOV increasing or decreasing)
  • Simulate ranging with a mil-dot reticle on a variety of targets at different distances
Eventually I hope to have the ability for the user to range the target, consult a dope sheet for drop and wind drift, then fire a shot. Try it out. You can move the reticle around on screen and use the slider to change magnification. The current reticle is the Premier Gen II Mil-dot and the range is between 3-15X.

There are two targets: an elk and up the hill off to the right below the trees is an 18" square. Test your ranging ability and let me know how far you think they are.

The elk is also sized to range...although I'd be a little more lenient on that since they do vary in size (not to mention sub-species).

I also added a set of buttons for fine-tuning the reticle position. Once you get close with the mouse, if needed you can move in finer increments with those.

The fine-tuning button is now a control that allows you to move diagonally as well.

  • Added balloon indicating position of second target
  • Improved arrow control so that it can either be clicked on repeatedly or the mouse button can be held down to keep the reticle moving when fine-tuning position
To come:
  • Mousewheel zoom in/out
  • keyboard arrow-key support for fine movements
  • target scenarios with different size targets and placements
  • firing and ballistics capabilities

120 yds to the elk, 385yds to the square.
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I never hunted Elk so not totally sure of the body size but guess around 20-24" top of back to bottom of belly range about 220-230 yards.
Still have to figure out how to get the box in the cross hairs.

The box is 399.9 yds away.  OK, I'll just call it 400.

The elk is too close to screw around ranging him--shoot!

I estimate 145 yds to the elk give or take 10 and 340 yds to the square.
How can we call it unalienable when we allow it to be suspended revoked or restricted?
