http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-76103797/ I feel for my Kali friends! Will it ever get to the point where Kali citizens say "enough is enough" and finally punish these politicians for this crap? |

RifleDude: " Will it ever get to the point where Kali citizens say "enough is enough" and finally punish these politicians for this crap?" Probably not. It's a numbers game and Americans are losing. Beyond that, we are at a point where the integrity of elections is dubious at best. |

I'm probably wrong but personally I think it's because there such a
diverse population here in Kali, so many points of view, so many
interests, things to do here, etc. trying to get everyone onboard is extremely difficult. Many here aren't aware or don't think that the assault on our 2A rights will effect them; others think they're safe because recent proposed legislation failed at a federal level. This is too bad and part of the problem here because soon it will be too late.

Bottom line is that California electorate is dominated by Los Angeles area (where I live) and Bay Area (where Mike lives).
Greater Los Angeles area is home to about 18 million people Bay area is home to about 8.5 million people. The one other metropolitan area in California is San Diego county where a bit over 3 million people live. The whole state of California has about 40 million people living in it, so these three large metropolitan areas account for the bulk of this state in terms of population. In my opinion (this is very anecdotal), most of the fiscally conservative population of this state is, to put it mildly, not religious and very leery of religion. Democrats have, rather intelligently, caught onto that fact and painted the Republican party as the party of the religious. Some people (like me) are willing to ignore that and vote based on the principles important to me: fiscal discipline, preserving the constitution, etc. That fact is simply because the government worries me a lot more than the religious Christians do. That is not the case for a lot of the people who otherwise have similar beliefs to mine. That is generally a pretty large scale problem for non-religious conservatives in this country: we are stuck in an uncomfortable spot where the fiscal policies of the left seem nuts to use and religious rhetoric of the right seems nuts to us. Then there is a simple fact that the last couple of Republican presidents we had were not exactly fiscal conservatives. California conservatives are not exactly inspired to vote a whole lot. Getting back to the 2nd amendment: it is an important issue to most conservatives (i.e. middle class) in this state, but likely not a "deal breaker" issue. Taxes, on the other hand, are. Hence, California middle class is doing a pretty respectable job of getting the hell out of the state which further skewes the electorate to the left. ILya

Fed up with it, and eventually many more will be too, as soon as the opportunity arises for me career wise, I will be moving to a free state. |
