THANKS,Ted. I've got a recoil pad fit issue that Bd set me right on. I'd also cut the full strength spar urethane to maybe 75% s.u./25% thinner. I'm learning.

Fantastic!! I want to fix up my thumb slot on my Mauser sporter stock because it is off-center geometrically. I would also like to refinish it with a bunch of coats of Pro Custom Oil. I just didn't have enough nerve to start rasping on it!!

It only hurts for a liittle while,Ed. Actually, walnut is a very tough and hard wood. It works slow and easy. I started with 220 grit then switched to 400 to finish shaping and used 0000 steel wool to smooth things up. Used a round pencil and a small sanding block with the sandpaper. I also had to lower the part of the stock just in front of the thumb slot some and blend it into the receiver ring. The thing that concerned me most was the small piece to be left just in front of the bolt release. NO problem. I just took it easy and made sure I was keeping with the contours of the receiver. You can do it.

Wow. I don't have the balls to try something like that. I nearly had a heart attack when the first bit of Krylon hit my rifle.

LOL!! Then you can imagine what I felt like taking a saw and cutting 3" off the fore end. Actually once I found out how easy the wood was too work with it was just a matter of taking my time (and praying alot!). Now putting on the finish was nerve racking in trying to get it even and smooth. As I said in other posts though I'd thin it out some next time which would make it easier.
Thanks,all.
