Going to OH for first time for whitetail and buying a new Ruger 450 Bushmaster rifle to comply with the straight wall regs in the state. It'll be a woods/fields hunting setting.
Question is for what type of budget $250+/- scope to get. I'm leaning towards a 3x9 but also have an unmounted 2.5x10 Bushnell 4200 at the house. I was trying to decide between something new that was a bit lighter or if I should just stick the 4200 on it. I was leaning towards the Leupold Freedom 3x9 but wanted a more informed opinion.

I'd spend the money on ammo and put the bushnell on it.

The 450 bushmaster is a cool round. had it in an AR for a while. similar trajectory as a 30-30 and about the same effective range.

I agree, the 4200 is solid scope and not so sure a Freedom would be any better.
Southern Michigan has a similar straight walled case restriction and the .450 is really hot here.

Well, you could always try the Bushnell and if you don't like it get something else?
Whatever you choose, happy hunting! Scrummy

I appreciate the insight.
I have a few of the 4200's I bought back when they were on sale years ago. I do like them optically but thought something a bit lighter might be better. Basically I was hoping to get a solid excuse to buy something new since I do have other rifles I could top with the Bushnell. |

I have a couple of those 4200s. They are a great scope optically and just work well. I don't think you will find anything better in your budget range. If you want light and amazing save up for a Swaro 3-9x36. I have one on an AR and it is outstanding. $700, but wow its a great little scope. ![]() I have not personally seen one but the Vortex Razor 1.5-8x32 is really talked up as well. Its on sale at SWFA for $500. It weights 13ish ozs. |
