I just got my Browning X-Bolt 7mm WSM, now i need a scope for it, i will using it for hunting elk in north eastern Oregon, i really don't want to spend a whole lot on a scope, no more than $500 any suggestions would be helpful. I was thinking of maybe one of these. Or should i go with something with more range?

The zeiss would be my pick out of what you listed, followed by the Meopta. One think you may need to think about is a holdever, BDC reticle, or target turrets to dial in correction. That 7mmWSM should reach out there and touch'em

Zeiss does make target turrents, but only for certain models and Conquest is not one of them. If you do look at a Zeiss Conquest look at their Rapid -Z.

Might also want to consider this one. They have a hydrophobic lens coating (Climate Control") which will really help in wet conditions. I just spent quite a bit of time behind a 3-9X40 Conquest on a friends rifle working up loads for him and it is also nice scope. There are a number of people here who will probably think I am nuts but I actually prefer my SIIB to the 3-9X40 Conquest. In fact I just ordered another. While I do like the Nikon scopes they can't hold a candle to either the SIIB or the Conquest. I can't speak for the Minox or the Meopta.

We measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with a chainsaw.

The SIIB is available with a holdover reticle or the standard turrets will work just fine for dialing elevation as they are both positive and easily resettable.

My vote is for the Conquest. It is an excellent scope, and either the Rapid Z or target turrets will get you out past maximum point blank range.

I am just going to go with the new Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 when it comes out and have some turrets made up by them for it, they seem like they are going to be really good scopes for the money, 500 sounds really good to me for a scope with a 30mm tube and all the other stuff that they offer. let me know if that sounds like a good way to go.

I think the Bushnell 4200 would hang in with those you mention, and the Rainguard feature makes it especially useful. Plus some closeout prices are tempting.
The Conquest is never a bad choice.
( Have to admit not looking through the M&Ms )

Hello dezmick,
I'm in Vancouver, WA - and have a new X-bolt .325 WSM. I had visited Browning in Morgan, UT and they got me high on the rifle and the cartridge. They recommended a Bushnell Elite for the performance / money. When I got the rifle in hand the guys at Warehouse Sports here would not let me leave without a Leupold VX3. I got the 4.5-14 x 50 with standard reticle and I am very happy. Regards, |
