Alright, I just bought a rem 710. 300 win mag.I know this isn't the best gun around( but I like it) this gun will be used for target shooting and hunting the lagergame.
Okay here is the question.I'm lloking for a scope to bring objects in close from 500 yard. There is now way i'll ever shoot over 200 but i like to see out far but hate carring 500 different itmes when i go hunting.
also is the super sniper a good scope ( thinking i might try it unless you guys can talk me out of it)
alright hope ya'll can make heads and tails of this.

SS is not the best choice for hunting - try a variable up to 14x or so, IMO.
if you are fixed at 10x, and you have an opportunity for a short shot - you could screw yourself out of a clean shot. my 2 cents.
i would recommend monarch UCC, zeiss conquest, or something like that.
you may need more eye relief if she's a kicker. good luck.
and welcome to the OT.

If still available the Monarch 3-9 is an excellent buy. http://www.swfa.com/c-218-nikon-monarch-ucc-riflescopes.aspx Also, the Bushnell 3-9 Elite 4200 is an excellent scope any way you look at it. http://www.swfa.com/pc-7280-185-bushnell-3-9x40-elite-4200-r ifle-scope.aspx Good luck and welcome tom O.T. |

for example - 3-12x40 would be
minimum 3x magnification - good for close shots maximum 12x magnification - good for longer shots
40mm is the objective end diameter.
for all around hunting under 300 yrds - 3-9x40 is a fine choice.
if you need super lowlight performance, get a bigger objective lens 44, 50, or 56 maybe.
hope this helps

Not going to get into the scope think--but whats wrong with the 710???? Upsets me that Rem didn't do this in 308,260 etc which I would buy in a heartbeat. The rifle comes up well, is lightweight and built well. Further more you have more to buy practice ammo.

Dale, After i bought the 710 i then did my research.I found that in early production that there was some problems with fireing pin's and some bolt problems when they took out some parts.they also had a problem with some of the plastice magazines braking.I also heard the trigger adjustment is very limited.(this is what i have heard but i love mine) but from what i understaind that all the problems have been taken care of.I know that now there is a recall on certain years http://www.remington.com/search/default.asp?zoom_query=710&a mp;1.x=22&1.y=7
Honestly i haven't had any trouble with mine, but it is like anything else there is always going to be a few people who will debate anything

yeah, i wouldn't mess w/ a BSA.
they are just not as good as you would need on a kicker. inferior optics.

If you can find a Pre Meade Simmons Aetec you will probably have a "somewhat" decent sope to work with. Ask Chris if he has any older Simmons scopes tha came in on trade.
