Thanks for the help Kickboxer. I hope we can get a list of specs soon, especially the inter-pupil distance and whatever the term is for how close your eyes have to be to the cups - I wear glasses and some binos don't play well with folks who wear glasses.

I have been using these for a bit and they work pretty well for me. The eye relief with glasses sufficient, but my glasses are fitted pretty close to my face.
The specs are on SWFA website: http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-12x32-Binocular-P101326.aspx 12x is more magnification than I typically use, so it took some getting used to. It is still a little tricky for me handheld for extended periods of time, but with some sort of support for the elbows these really come into their own. I like the reticle a lot. It is positioned just right, in my opinion and you can adjust its angular position. Once you set your IPD up properly, you can rotate the reticle within the FOV, so it is level with the world. I think that is pretty unique and it works exceedingly well. ILya

ILya, why 12x? Any insight on that choice? That seems quite high for a 32mm bino to me.

I think Chris likes 12x, but honestly I am not sure. I stumbled into SWFA office a long time ago when they working on the concept, so I made some reticle suggestions. Aside from that I do not have much insight into it.
At 12x32, it is not a general purpose binocular for general hunting applications. However, from the standpoint of ranging, spotting for someone, etc, 12x is a good choice. It was notably easier for me to spot for someone shooting way out there with these than with my 6x Viper and the reticle gave me immediate correction values in mrad. I suspect this may also be an interesting option for people who hunt fairly high up in the mountains and may need to look across considerable distances. This is a very compact way to get a fair bit of magnification with you uphill. ILya

Holy cow, the 3-15 is $399!
And I usually stay in the 6-10X range too on binos, specially using on the ground. But I'll get a pair.

I am still using it, and I am finding myself liking it a fair bit. The rotating reticle is a surprisingly useful feature.

Bump
Any more feedback. It looks like both Koskin and RC have a set. Are you using them of leaving them home. I am curious (and don't know much about binos) why 32 instead of 42? Weight? Cost? Edited by HKtoTikka - November/23/2017 at 08:56 |
