I am getting a savage 10fcp with macmillen stock and need a scope.  I don't know much about scopes but I am looking to shoot from 100 to 1000 yards. I have started to do some research on scopes and I am in the early stages of leaning towards this one:

426245T Bushnell%206-24x50%20Elite%204200%2030mm%20Rifle%20Scope%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20 Bushnell 6-24x50 Elite 4200 30mm Rifle Scope
  • Matte
  • 12x Mil-Dot
  • 30mm
  • Rainguard
  • Side Focus
  • Free 5" Sun Shade w/ Purchase
  • Bushnell Free Waterproof Jacket Coupon

How do these compare with the super sniper scopes? Will this do what I need? I am interested in a mil dot because it's my understanding that if you learn how to use it, it gives you the most options.

I am not one of these guys that thinks they know everything. I am very green but want the equipment to be able to do what I want and then spend the next few years learning how to shoot the setup properly. I am willing to listen to any comments ideas. Thanks!

While the Bushnell 4200 scopes have very nice glass they simply do not have enough internal adjustment to get to the magic 1000 yds these will and so will the Super Sniper  note the glass is better on the IOR but Leupold has the best customer service and is very mechanically reliable and the choice of most police and military snipers.  If you can live with a fixed power scope the Super Sniper 10x is a fine choice with lots of internal adjustment. In any case Badger Ordnance base with plus 20moa base and Badger ordnance rings.

I have that Bushnell and it's an amazing scope. I have no clue how far out you could reach with one but it is a fine scope. I enjoy my trigger time with that rifle more than any of my others.

The 1,000 yard requirement puts the choice in another whole ball game . But remember SWFA has the 110% price guarantee on any you choose !

If you told us 100 to 600 yds I would say that the Bushnell would make you happy as long as you use a plus 20 moa base.
For Federal 168 Sierra Matchking
Max Point blank range is 264 yds when zeroed at 224 yds.

I really appreciate your  very informative response. I am still trying to learn all this and at times it's overwhelming. Like I said I am new but I do want to make sure I get good gear to start with I don't want to make multiple purchases. I won't be ready to shoot 1000 yards right from the strat but eventually want to have the gear to do so.

The super snipers get good reviews but I can't get over that they are fixed and not variable. (Correct me if i am wrong). Some of the scopes don't show me what the MOA it can be adjusted too. I am not sure I want to spend 1k on a scope but will if there are no other choices.

Welcome to Optics Talk!

My friend, I'd get a 10x Super Sniper, learn it, and start shooting if I were you.
