Hi all
Just bought a pair of Nikon Monarchs 8x42.
Just tried them out and so far look very good except for edge sharpness.
the top is not in focus at all  bottom is little better and sides are fair . Question
Did I get a bad copy or is this normal . Seems to have a sweet spot in center and falls off more then I thought
it would . thanks William

Monarch is a rather basic binoculars. I think both Bushnell Excursion and Vortex Diamond outperform it. The edge sharpness is not strong point on any of those binoculars. For their price point, it is probably acceptable not to have high edge resolution. IMO

You got a bad copy, it seems.  That having been said, Nikon Monarch binocular is not exactly creme-de-la-creme, even if you get  decent sample.
