I am trying to decide between the Nikon Monarch 7 or the Vortex Diamondback, in 10 x 42.
Which would be brighter with the better fit, feel and build quality?? Do the ED glass in the Monarch make it really that much more optically superior, or is the whole ED glass thing more hype and sales marketing? Thanks! |

Don't have either of those models so I can't give you an honest opinion. I do have the diamondback 12X50s, they are well worth the cost. Not as sharp as my Steiners and they shouldn't be, for 1/3 the cost. The original pair that I owned were called Vortex Vultures. I layed them on the front of my ATV and when they fell, I ran them over. Vortex sent me a brand new pair of Diamondbacks, free of charge. I told them exactly how I had broken them, which was my fault alone. I have dealt with Nikon customer service several times, mostly with photo equipment. I can guarantee you that they won't be as nice to you as Vortex if something goes wrong.

Yes, BOTH Vortez and Zen Ray customer service are top notch, professional and very friendly, especially Zen Ray!

Well in my opinion the glass on the monarch 7 are far superior to the diamondbacks. Brighter and sharper. The monarch 7s are more compareable to the vortex viper hds. Im a vortex guy but of I had to choose between the two I would pick the monarchs all day. Yes ed glass is a lot better, its no marketing scheme IMO.
