Noobie question Sig 556 DMR

Buddy just sold me his Sig Sauer 556 DMR this week. He kept the very expensive scope for another project.

For under $1000 you get a lot of options.  Can you give us a bit more info on how it will be used.  Just paper targets? any hunting?  Any self defense?

I'd second the suggestion to pick one of the Super Sniper scopes. Base your choice of power range on how you will use the rifle. If you were in a slightly higher price range I would say no question about it the 5-20x50 non illuminated is the one I would want but I have several of the 3-9x42 version and they are a great  all around scope. I have also owned all the versions of the 10x including the HD and the HD is an awesome scope and very tough. There is a lot to be said about starting out learning with a fixed 10x scope because everything is always the same and it is plenty of power to shoot accurately at very long range but not so much power that you suffer in low light.  6x42 is maximum brightness in low light 10x is pretty livable but higher power scopes suffer in low light and on very hot days from mirage.  The other big advantage of the 10x is adjustable parallax.  The down side of any 10x scope is that it can be difficult to get onto a moving target under 100 yds where 6x will do so pretty darn quick.

If the scope will see use for self defense, quick target acquisition, or night time use for coyotes etc.

This is a fairly good mount, I've used on for years with no problems.  Benefit to it is if you ever change scopes and go to a 30mm all you do is remove the inserts and your good.  Will accomidate both size scope tubes 1" and 30mm -

Thats how it goes when they have limited stock on stuff like that.  Give them a call 1-972-SCOPE-IT and see if they have any of the other Sightron scopes still availible.

If you haven't checked out the samplelist   Check it out.  Mostly demo or trade in scopes that SWFA offers for unbelievable deals.  I have this scope but in Plex,  Great scope.  Vortex is one of the best in customer service you'll ever encounter if you have to use them.  Glass is good but a hair below the weaver mentioned above. Another great scope I have this one on a 300 WSM hunting rifle now.  Love the glass.  best of the three I just listed.  Only caveat I'd warn is to see if they are in stock by calling first.  I know they are hot sellers and at one time were on back order.

One other thing.  calling SWFA is the best course of action to see if its in stock.  Their site is not set up to do real time inventory.  Also all their sales staff is extremely nice. 

By the way the 3-10x50 out performs the 4.5-14x42 seriously it allows that much more light that it makes a difference.

The 1-4 Mamba by Optisan is a lot of scope for the money.

Red and Green illumination, a CQB reticle, calibrated turret. Just don't forget to turn OFF the illumination as it will run the battery flat.(yeah you know how I learned that.)

Mine has banged around in a pickup on a Bushmaster 5.56 lightweight for over a year with no issues and seen 500+ rounds of GI ammo plus a few 100 handloads.

Have no idea if it could handle a big bore, but don't plan to find out.
