Big day for my son and DIL today. They both had and passed their naturalization interviews to become US citizens. Formal Oath of Allegiance ceremonies takes place next Friday. Both my granddaughters are citizens by birth.
I have long believed that if you emigrate to a country, take advantage of its rights and benefits then you should endeavour to become good citizens. I have to admit however that I have felt more than a touch of poignancy leading up to this as it truly means now a break with home. Our loss is your gain! p.s. the thread title was for Ed’s benefit

Craig, congratulations... with every fiber of my being.
I must say, I feel a strong twinge of patriotism every time I watch an immigration ceremony where people become Citizens of the United States of America. It makes me very proud. We are glad to welcome your son and daughter-in-law, as Americans, and wish them well. Give them a hug and a "Godspeed" from me. No matter what, this is still the greatest country on earth... the best that's ever been. It is amazing and wonderful to welcome your family members into OUR family. Bless them. Congratulations, again. Thank you for sharing this moment with us.

Just the kids Ted. They have been in the US for almost 8 years now, both their daughters were born there, so it was time to get properly settled.
My heart still belongs to a slightly colder region, although I visit here often enough.
