I was recently given a Redfield 3x-9x scope by someone who found it at an estate sale. It still has the box, lens covers, warranty card, receipt, etc. It even still has stickers on the top that say 18" accu-range and medium crosshairs. It also has an extra glass lens as well as a mount with mounting instructions. The receipt says it was bought Sept. 1969. I am a beginner to scopes and no little about this one. Can anyone give me some info about it? Is it good, does it still work, can you mount it on a modern rifle, etc?

Back in 1969 Redfield was an excellent scope. If it's clear you can still use it, but it will not have the coatings that new scopes have.  It won't be anywhere near as good as a modern scope in low light situations.  But if you're just going to go deer hunting out in the back pasture, and it's not pouring rain, it will work. But, it's still an old scope and you will be going home once the sun starts to set.

Stick it on a 22 rifle.

I have a Redfield 3-9 Wideview Accu-Track Illuminator that I bought back in the mid to late 80's.  I still have the instructions as well as the 4 different turret dial to use based on the cartridge/velocity being used. I had mine set for a 165gr 30-06. It had 2 stadia lines at the top and you would turn the mag ring until they framed the back to belly on a deer and then read the yardage in the lower right window.  It was calibrated for 18" on a deer and there was a conversion table to use 24" for an elk.

After taking an elk with a bow in '87 with a guide in Montana, w went bear hunting and saw one in a rock slide that my guide said was about 350 yards away. My kings were heaving from the climb to get to that spot but I adjusted the dial and hit the bear. The guide went up and found blood but we never found it even after searching the area the next day.

It doesn't have the modern coatings available now but it's still a good scope.
