rave reviews by those that own it, to include ILya, so I am attempting to decide it, the Minox ZA-3, Meopta MeoPro and Zeiss Conquest but I sure do love the #4 reticle on the Meopta for $399!

My old 16X SS has been a solid scope, and even though I've not used it much I've found that I have to be spot on behind it to properly acquire/sustain the target picture. I retrospect I should have probably gone with the 10X.....

I obviously left off the first part of the post above so here it is once again, complete. (btw, how does one edit the original post around here)?

Will this scope be used for big game hunting or what, primarily?

Think you need 50 posts to edit.

I question how good a FFP Mil Dot reticle would be in LOW light conditions while hunting.
I think you'd be better served with a #4 reticle, in that regard. At least where I hunt here in NC.

I own and love the 3-9x SS, but that Mil Dot reticle might get thin in very low light and thick brush.
If your not needing or wanting a Mil Dot to range, than I feel there are other reticles that may serve you better for hunting.
The German 4 allows you to hunt and target shoot in legal hunting hours, without loosing the reticle in the low light/brush.

The 3-9x SS is a terrific scope and an insane value, so please don't think I'm trying to talk you out of it.

I spent last winter coyote hunting with the SS. The reticle gets better in low light if the magnification is cranked up to around 6X. The glass is outstanding for the money.
I dog hunt with my brother who has the R1 Meostar with a 4A. It is an excellent low light scope. It likewise has excellent glass.
For hunting I'll take the 4A any day of the week. I have been using mil-dot scopes in the last year or so for hunting and I'm getting by. But, the 4A is still the winner for low light given comparable glass.

I am blessed to own my own land so I don't have to worry about hunting in low light or thick brush but you're exactly right guys, I am sold on the $4 reticle and the Meopta for the $ can't be beat, even though I dislike the way it looks. But before I pull the trigger I'd like to make certain I'll be happy with it that's why I am also entertaining the 3x9SS. If it has the better glass and better durability then I’ll probably go with it.

I hauled my 22-250 around a bit through some very heavy cover. Sometimes I was crawling on my hands and knees under dead falls. That doesn't really address the reliability of the SS. But it did tell me that my worries about the tactical knobs turning on me while on the move were unfounded.
The SS is a sturdy scope for sure. If you get the chance to handle one you will know.
