I am looking into handloading for at least some of my centerfires, and ran in to a press in my dad's basement. The press is brand new, never been out of the box, but the reciept in the box is dated 5/31/1983. This is a Pacific Multipower "C" press. I was originally looking at an RCBS turret press. Would it be worth trying to save some $$ for now and use this press to learn and get started? I am hoping this press will accept RCBS shell holders. The threads for dies are the standard 7/8-14 so I assume any die set with these threads will work?

 Absolutely!
Use it while buying all your other reloading goodies on your original press budget. When you think you've outgrown it, buy a turret or whatever, and leave that one dedicated to de-capping or whatever you want.

Anyone aware for sure if this press will accept new RCBS shellholders and dies? For the shell holder it has a little groove and a retaining spring that I assume kind of acts like a snap-ring.

here is a link I found about your press: http://www.antiquereloadingtools.com/discus/messages/8/485.html?1177463342
It says it uses standard dies, so you should be go to go. I have never seen or used one, though. From the pic on the link, looks like you may have to use some muscle if you are loading larger cases.

Thanks niles. I have a buddy at work who "rolls his own", I'm going to see if I can borrow a shell holder from him and see if it fits. As far as using muscle, I don't have any, but my press is not the one in the picture. Mine is the pull handle down to raise ram newer style. Thanks for the input guys.
