Got up to 71degF today... spent the day working up range cards for shooting tomorrow and working on the mantle for the fireplace... used a crosscut saw to cut the ends off a 10' cherry plank.  Right now it is 75"x13 1/4"x7".  I still have to notch it to fit the fireplace, sand it, stain it, polyurethane it.

Sounds good Dan. Love cherry wood.

Bud, I have bottled up some of this weather just for you. I’ll work up an applicable price real soon.

Gee Thanks Ric. Just remember, pay backs have been known to HURT!

Sounds great Dan.  13.5X7 is a LARGE mantle!  I got a reclaimed Chestnut beam from a 120 Year old Barn.  It's only 7x9 but looks fantastic.  It has a wonderful patina to it.  I left mine natural...  Sanding gets old fast! I did wire wheel it with a soft wire to clean it up.

Evening gents

It was sunny, and got up to the upper 50's. Most of the snow and ice are gone, but we've got plenty of mud and slop.

I'm not jealous Bud. I just hate alarm clocks and set bed times. Probably a few (lot) other things, but I try not to think of them.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Pennsylvania is chock full of old chestnut barns and old buildings. Our old barn was timber-frame construction from the 1800s made out of chestnut. We could have sold the chestnut wood for ten times what Dad paid for the farm.

Actually they have introduced blight resistant Chestnuts back into the area.  Just need to le them mature some more.  I'm starting to see Chestnuts in the local grocery...

A lot of the old barns in PA were built from site harvested Chestnut.  That's why I chose them.  the wood is this beautiful warm buttery brown similar to Pecan wood.
