Walked alot of trails Earl.  Never realized just how much mast there is in my immediate area!  4-5 varieties of acorns, hickory nuts, black & English Walnuts, Buckeyes, several types of Cherries too.  Squirrels were spreading the walnuts I guess  I didn't see any walnut trees in the immediate vacinity.

SERIOUSLY though.  I've noticed probably over the past 15yrs or so that the recoil level for the occasional hunter around here has dropped from the .30-06 to the .270 Win. in rifles of std weight(8.5lbs all up maybe).

Things are good Graham how are you?

Here is my glock 32C chambered in .357 SIG I use for self/home defense. Since acquiring the pistol I added the Lasermax rail mount for quick acquisition, ( http://swfa.com/LaserMax-Uni-Max-Rail-Mount-Red-Laser-P44514.aspx ), and the 31 round mag to not have to worry about changing mags if things did get crazy. Just wanted to tell someone. I figured you guys would listen.Yippee

LOL  Still, MOST shooters don't want to deal with recoil.

I have shot some heavy kickers and while it doesn't bother me while hunting I am one of those ones who don't like alot of recoil especially at the range and with my size not much meat to absorb the blow here. Lol

Thunbs Up Chris!  MORE people need to start SERIOUSLY thinking about self/home defense.  I look for things to get worse.

Of course!  To me if your working off of a bench at the range it's for load development, sight in,checking out work done on a firearm, etc. where recoil should be minimized so not to affect test results.  Getting use to the firearm for hunting should be done under field conditions or at the range in field positions.

Unfortunately that is probably true. I thought about going with a shotgun but this ended up being my choice. I know some will say you never know where that bullet will go after hitting the target and a lot swear by shot guns but my ability to be able to control a handgun so much more and keep it close with my size I would NOT want to be wrestling some guy over a long gun of any sort AR/SHOTGUN. I would lose that battle everytime. That has a lot to do with my choice. They have to get a lot closer to get a pistol out of my hands. Especially in a home with having to round corners it would be very easy to grab the barrel coming around the corner if it was a long gun.
