Maybe a Compact Trijicon on there, and a dozen magazines.. Let her practice awhile and she would be good to go..

This rifle is to heavy though by the time you put a mag in it and a lil scope

My wife shoots my old 870 wingmaster 20 gauge with "00" buck all the time, shes 5'2" and right at the same as your wife in lbs.  it would be a better home defense gun just beacause of it being a "scatter" gun and not having accuracy issues as much but plinking wouldn't be an option.

I will mention it to her and see what she says, a 20 guage she could handle alright....I have a pump Win. Defender I keep behind the front of the bed, its loaded with 00 Buckshot 3" mags. She has watched me shoot skunks with it. Thats why she does not like the idea of a shotgun, Ha! Ha! Ha!   Its a kicker

Damn a Ithaca, I would like one for myself, are they making them again?

I think my wife would like a small AR or the Tactical Mini 14, the mini only weighs 6.75 lbs and its stainless with a synthetic stock.. According to the 2009 mini show on utube, they claim the little Mini is more accurate than ever. Im just not sure about that magazine, loading the damn thing..Maybe it just the one I had? not sure...
I think my wife wants to be able to shoot out to 100 yards er so. I'll keep looking for light weight AR's though. Also you have to remember you guys when they outlawed the Black Rifles (AR's) They did not outlaw the mini ranch rifles and even then they had 20 round mags around.. Of course if they get the AR's again that does not mean they will miss the Mini this time, although I do not believe it falls in the Black Rifle catagory,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Steve (Scooter) If I could talk her into a 12 ga double barrel, they make one and sell it down the streeet for under 400.00 its called a Coach Gun, short barrels. She could use that as well and load it specifically with 2 3/4 #4 Buckshot or OO. That would be pretty nasty for self defense.......They even make that sam SG in StainlessSmile

Do they have a website, I would like to see that double in stainless.  Yes, last I checked I believe somebody up in NY? picked up the Ithaca license and they were producing them again.

A few years ago someone was making an AR-15 with a carbon fiber upper and lower reciever with a 16" barrel and a skelatonized stock. Very, very lite. I thought about buying one for backpacking because of the weight, but I had another project going and didn't have the extra cash. I don't know if their still made though. You could probably find a used one.

It may have been Bushmaster , although there stock is not skelatonized.. But yes thats what Im looking for Beltfed.. I should actually stick with a AR so we can use the same mags, keep it simple there anyway...

The ARs I looked at used AR-15 mags and everything was the same excrpt for the carbon fiber recievers. Can't say exactly about the stocks except that it wasn't the standard or M4 stock.

They still make the carbon 15. I did a post on one a while back. I also have one for sale if you are intersted in it.
