Man O' War was in his bloodline...did not win the Triple Crown because he did not run the Derby... did win the Preakness and Belmont.   His line claims 240 big race winners.
Then, of course, we took the wine tasting and I tried the Belle Meade whiskeys.  Lori got a bottle of their Chardonnay and I got the Belle Meade Reserve Bourbon.  Report on that soon.
It was a great getaway.  We both had a marvelous time and will definitely visit again.  We did not get to visit The Hermitage... it was closed.

Sounds like a laid back and very enjoyable trip sir. Given all that is going on in our nation/world, it's as important as ever to be able to get away from the grind and enjoy simplicity and small pleasures with a partner.

Of my many travels, I've never actually spent a significant amount of time in Nashville. Your story generates renewed interest in spending quality time there at some point down the line. I've heard many great things from numerous people of the years.

So I was doing some "spring" cleaning in my basement and found 1050 rounds of Federal Champion .22LR, high velocity, hollow points in one of my ammo cases. I now remember buying those 2 value packs during the Obummer years when ammo was drying up faster than my knuckles in winter. Needless to say, my son (he's 9 now) and i will be getting some plinking in before it gets way too damn cold out haha.

Good day gents

Shooter07, I was thinking of you just the other day. Wondering where in the hell had you been and if something had happened to you. Now here you are.

Got a friend that is going to Peru with his wife on a mission trip. Both are retired Army Sgt.s, so I'm not to worried about them. Another friend warned him that there are people from his church that were on a mission trip to Afghanistan. Thanks to Ole Joe, they are trapped there with no hope of getting out, and just waiting to die.

Lets Go Brandon! And all of his friends and allies too.

Lynn,

Long story short, went through a divorce a few years ago, and being I've dealt with severe anxiety and fleeting bouts of depression throughout my life, was a rough time for me, especially in the early going. Pretty much isolated myself and disconnected from most people, including the good folks around here. Soul searching, a lot of reading, self reflection and improvement. Doing a lot better these days. My son is healthy and doing extremely well and I can't ask for anything else to be quite honest.

Glad to see you're still here sir! I did read about the scam disaster you went through and I feel gut punched for you and your wife. I do hope that you get some clarity and restitution from the debacle. Burns me up that people take advantage of other human beings like that. Money is truly the root of most evil and so many have no trouble screwing others over just to access more of it.

At a small Thanksgiving dinner last week with my parents and a few friends of theirs, they asked me how I felt about Afghanistan given I spent serious time there in the early days of the campaign. It's honestly the straw that broke the camel's back for me and government. I was already a Libertarian in a nutshell but the fraud, waste, and complete insult to all those who served, be it our boys/girls, or even the Afghans who helped try and make that country/region a better place for women and children especially, angers me. There is no forgiving our government, specifically the Biden admin and insane left IMO. We spent trillions of dollars, lost thousands of lives (a few of whom i personally knew/grew up with), and literally just gave the region back to those we drove out 20 years ago. There is no bigger insult, beyond the asinine covid sh*t we're dealing with now of course.

I can honestly say I'll never take up arms for the Federal government again, under any circumstance. Take up arms in defense of our land against enemies, foreign/domestic? Absolutely. But I won't do it for the government.

Wow Shooter, you have been through a rough time. The D word is one I fear a lot, and I don't even have kids. I'm just too old to start over.
I am glad to hear you are doing well. You're still young, believe it or not, and you still have a big future in front of you.
I know how you feel about Asskrackisstan. The day it happened, I talked to a Marine friend of mine who was in both theaters over there. He was devastated and totally depressed. I spent a lot of time with him that day. Reminded me of a lot of Vietnam vets I know. A lot f them felt like you. One was a door gunner. He said he would never fight for this Government again. He was my partner for a while. Died f brain cancer a few years ago. As another Marine/Police officer friend of mine said to me as he was slowly dying from the Camp Lajune cancer, "I knew what I was getting into when I joined. I knew there was a risk and I made it through, even though not everybody did. I have no regrets and I'd do it again." He did 2 tours in Vietnam. He passed away earlier this year. He was a special person, and his visitation and funeral was well attended by people from all across the State.
The point I'm trying to make, is he didn't let the war get him down. He pressed on to make his life and the lives of those around him better. Not to say he wasn't bitter, he just didn't let it get in his way or define him. I don't ever remember a time that he didn't make me laugh; no matter how good or bad our situation was.
Don't let the war get you down. Press on and get on with your life.

Now me; I just found out I'm gonna have to shell out $5,000 or a lot more to fix or replace my heating and cooling system.

Press on.

Eh,

Not compared to many. Part of what made the divorce so difficult is my anxiety and depression, which are just part of who I am, chemically upstairs in the brain. To be quite frank, we're (my ex and I) are in a great spot and have been since it finally fell apart. Not that there weren't some terse words in the very early stages but we never went to court, never fought over possessions or money. We came to a verbal agreement on what I'd pay her in child support and a schedule that worked well for both of us in terms of seeing our son. Fortunately we both wanted to make the transition as "easy" as possible on our boy as he was just getting old enough to understand that something "bad" was happening between us. And while it certainly took him some time to adjust through the initial divorce and subsequent introduction of a new man (my ex is now engaged to a nice guy, former army grunt) and his 2 children, I honestly think he (my boy) has handled it miles better than I did from an emotional standpoint. I'm beyond proud of him for being a big brother now to these 2 other kiddos and he enjoys the role. My son is filled with so much kindness and empathy which makes my heart happy, to say the least. He's been through a lot (seizures, our split) in 9 odd years and is thankfully flourishing socially and academically. That's the only true priority I have in my life right now. Making positive memories with him.

It's taken nearly 4 decades but I've finally reached a point in life where I am comfortable w/who I am as a person. I will never be the super happy go lucky person who is the life of the party or extroverted. I spent too much time and too much money trying to please others and "fit in" in my youth and 99% of the time it simply left me more frustrated and despondent w/who I thought I was/wanted to be.

I have a house, the stang which is now long paid off, and a newish job (switched companies not long after my divorce) that has been a huge breath of fresh air and survived a bout of covid (naturally) back in April. I'm still kicking and won't let the anxiety or occasional depressive streak get me down in a place like I was. There are literally billions, with a b, who would kill to have the life I have and I'm a just an ordinary guy making a decent wage in fairly rural/suburban area. It's something I reflect on a lot having been fortunate enough to see a good portion of the world, including some really impoverished places.

Reading some of the awful situations you and Dan were recently in also helps solidify that mindset. We're never alone in our problems, regardless of what type they are. Isolation is the worst possible route you can take, and I know as good as anyone. It always leads to darker places and more hate. There are great people out there, even strangers who will listen and help in numerous ways.

It's funny, on my way to work I stopped for a drink and a snack and on my way back to the car an elderly woman, probably in her late 70's asked me if I could help her put air in her tires. We spoke for a few minutes while I got the machine on and filled her front left up (it was at like 15 lbs) and it was so wholesome. She mentioned her husband had passed away the year prior and her arthritis prevented her from doing a lot of fine tuning with her fingers. We spoke about general things but at the end she gave me a hug, a complete stranger. Moments like that restore and remind that the world is still filled with many wonderful people. We just don't hear or see it as often because that doesn't sell TV or internet stories.

And I'm sorry to hear about the heating/cooling fix sir. I just spent $7500 on replacing my 31 year old roof last year. I knew it was coming but you still hate to fork over that kind of money on necessities lol. It's always something needing fixed/tweaked as a homeowner. Hope you can find a respectable person/outfit to fix that up for you!

Wow!

Good evening gents.

Finished my first day at my new part time job. It was just 4 hours, but it was a long 4 hours; getting introduced to people, learning the building, procedures, security concerns, etc., etc.. No predictions yet, but so far, it makes the port look like a sweat shop, and other than working out, I only broke a sweat once at the port.

Oh Paul, glad to hear you still have your Mustang. Kinda wish I still had my 13 GT. Something to be said for "paid off". I traded it for a 19 Mustang GT PP2. Love the car, but I can't say "paid off" yet.
There's a big Mustang meet in Somerset Ky. I believe in September. Maybe that would be close enough for you that we could meet up there. I'll keep you informed.

Mornin’ all.

Yesterday was the last day of rifle in the Northern zone and I managed to salvage the season with a crotch horn at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Now I’m going to hunt the Southern zone for a couple weeks with rifle then muzzleloader.

Congrats!!  Silly question from a western hunter, what's a crotch horn....  a spike fork (1x2)?
