I know that Burris makes Pentax scopes and I have heard that they use to use different glass but now use the same glass. If this is true, then is the Burris Signature Select 3-10x40 going to be the same scope as the Pentax Lightseeker XL 3-9x40 ? Are the lenses and coatings the same? If so, does Pentax have tighter quality control and that is the reason for the higher price on an almost identical scope. I looked through a SIGNATURE SELECT at Bass Pro the other day and it had very clear and bright optics and was very comfortable to look through. The only thing I didnt like was that the power ring and eyepiece was one integrated unit. I believe the Pentax still has the eyepiece and power ring seperate which if these scopes are identical in optics then I would go with Pentax for that reason. I want to choose between the ZEISS CONQUEST, BURRIS SELECT, PENTAX XL, NEW NIKON MONARCH AND BUSHNELL 4200 all in 3-9x40. I dont need a ballistic reticle so that isnt a factor. How would these stack up against each other optically in resoloution and brightness? Do the SIGNATURE SELECT and the PENTAX XL use the same glass or is one better than the other?

if i were you, i would go w/ the zeiss conquest w/ a #4 reticle - great glass, great reticle for lowlight.

let us know what you decide.

Would you say the Conquest has better or equal optics to the Pentax lightseeker xl? I can get and XL for about $325.00 brand new right now. I think they are a heavier scope though. My second choice is an Elite 4200 in 3-9x40.

i haven't heard much about pentax lightseekers, so you may want to do a search on this forum and find out.

the conquests are excellent.  hard to beat for that pricerange.

i have abused my zeiss scopes and they have done quite well.

zeiss is top quality glass and construction.  you can't go wrong.

But for the money, the elite 4200 is almost as good.

the 4200 is a heavy scope also. i think the zeiss is probably the best choice off the list above.

This is repeated from another source from the web but I have heard rather recently that burris doesn't make all other models, and some of the models are now made at factories in China. It may have been Doug from the NY optics place that handles pentax that was saying this. Not putting them down or anything but that may be where they are made now, I'll have to look as it was a very crediable source that was saying this. In the price range your're looking the 3x9x40 conquest would be in striking distance and IMHO as good as it gets, plus you get that great lazer etched reticle.

OK I found it....the pioneer is made by burris for pentax and looks like the fullfield ll, pacific rim manufacture......many models are now made at their own scope manufacturing plant in China, don't know if this includes the lightseeker models or not..

It would be good if you could go where they have the scopes to see and look thru......the 4200 will be very close to the conquest with color rendition, fast euro focus, finish, and etched reticle being the conquests edge. Never looked thru a pentax so no idea where it stands.
