I had my heart set on a Pentax DCF WP (if I recall correctly) when I get my tax refund, but now they don't seem to exist. I'm still looking for something lightweight, in the 7x30 to 8x40 range for under $500. I don't like 10x because the view is too shaky. I already have nice (big, heavy) 50mm binocs. I get headaches from bad optics, so I think phase coated is a must for me if I get a roof prism.

What should I be looking at now?

The Pentax DCF WP were discontinued and replaced by the Pentax DCF/SP line.  The little 8x32 sounds perfect for ya, it weighs 22.3 ounces.  If you want to step up in objective a tad they also offer an 8x43 than only weights 1.3 ounces more.  You also gain 1.4 mm in exit pupil too!!  Downside is you give up 63 feet in field of view with the larger unit.  Each has their positives and negatives.  If you are packing them and using them for locating game all day long (elk hunting) I would go with the lighter, smaller, wider field of view 8x32.  If you are using them primarily in low light and at closer ranges (whitetail hunting from a stand) I would lean toward the 8x43.
