Im going to try a new scope on my Savage 10fp in .308. Right now I have an older Nikon Monarch (Japan made) 6.5x20x44 on it, and the scope is mounted to the rifle useing Leupold rifleman 2 piece mounts, and dove-tail rings. Im going to try a Pentax Gameseeker 30 8.5x32x50 on it and am woundering if Im better off mounting the scope with a one piece picatiny rail, and a set of good tactical 30mm rings. Since my Nikon is a 1 inch tube and the Pentax is a 30mm tube I need to buy new rings anyway. Any advice on this will be greatly appriciated.

Morning, gundogblue.  Welcome to the OT.   In my limited experience, YES.  A good pic rail set-up, with good rings is better, in probably every way.

Thanks Optics Grass Hopper for the quick reply, I did notice a very interesting mount on SWFA sight, it's the DNZ Game Reaper tactical mount. Since it's all one piece (rings and mount) would'nt that make for a very strong and accurate mounting system?

Don't have any experience with the DNZ. Maybe some of the more experienced members can speak to that. You also might look at the Talley Lightweight Mounts; they are HIGHLY recommended here, but I have not used them. Yet.

Welcome to Optics Talk.

I'm sorta starting to like non pic rail set ups better these days. I actually had a Badger rail and rings on the same Nikon you mentioned. Worked well. No complaints.

These days I'm using and recommending Talley Lightweights. Strong, light, and leave the ejection port more open for easier ammo loading. Matter of fact, I'm switching out the Badger rail on my pet .308 Remington and going with Talley's.

+1 on the Talley's. They are a very clean, light and extremely sturdy setup. You get everything you need to mount your scope for around $40. You can easily pay way more than that for a decent rail and set of rings.
