I had cataract surgery a few years ago and while I have great distance vision I have lost the ability to use open sights. Not a problem on rifles just switched to scopes.
Revolvers are a different story. I only shoot two, a Taurus Tracker 41 Mag and a S&W 34.
Both are 4" barreled and rather compact in size. Any sugestions on scopes, red dots or holo sights that won't make these compact little revolvers into cumbersome pieces of iron.

I'd think about having my machinest friend make me a ghostring rear sight insert... The red dot seems to be the most pratical answer.

I'm going to suggest a laser. Crimson Trace.
Or Lasermax. https://www.lasermax.com/about/why.php? Edited by RONK - May/11/2008 at 14:24 |

A good suggestion. Another option is fiber optic sights. Do you shoot with both eyes open? Sometimes it makes a difference. I do and I found out I had to use a sight blocker on my left eye, I still keep it open but I can't see anything with it with the blocker IF you wear prescription lenses. Merit and Lyman both produce the tool that you can use for this. Best wishes, Bill |

Handloads are like underwear, be careful who you swap with.

I've had cataract surgery as well. I can still shoot a handgun with open sights OK, but I prefer a scope if any distance (over 25 yards) is involved. On your revolvers I would avoid optics if at all possible. Have you tried shooting them? I can't shoot a rifle either, but that rear sight is a lot closer than a handgun (I use a two hand grip, fully extended).
