First post on this forum, and it is a challenge.
I have a Dr. Girard 8x scope, with damaged post reticles. I am a pretty technically oriented person, and disassembling and repairing cameras, scopes, and this one is no exception. I actually found some spring steel wire that was close to the right diameter. I cut the wire, tried to round the ends with 2000 grit sandpaper, blued, oiled, and cleaned the new posts, then installed them. Under the magnification of looking through the scope, they look incredibly ugly. Even with a microscope, I just don't have the tools to make posts that are clean and consistent enough to use. Is there a source for replacement posts? I don't want to have to pay someone to do work that I can do myself. In every other way, the scope is close to perfect, I am using it on a 1941 Mauser. Thanks for any advice. |
