Yes, a dumb question, but just want to get confirmation before the locktite goes on the screws...

The 20 MOA base is designed to provide extra minutes of elevation for long range shooting.

So the higher (thicker) end of the base would mount toward the barrel end of the receiver, right??

Thanks!

I believe just the opposite is true you want the thicker of the base at the rear so the front of the scope slightly points down at the muzzle so if you are looking through the scope your barrel is already pointing high.thus providing longer distance but still don't apply that loctite for I am not 100% on this.

Thanks for the input.

I've done a search on this forum but didn't find any answers...

Yes, I'll hold off for a definative answer.

A detail like this, you'd think would be included in the mounting instructions that came with the base (Badger).

Perhaps it's so obvious to everyone but me that this little piece of information isn't necessary.

From Badger's mounting instructions:

It appears the illustrations shows the high end of the base goes toward the rear (tang) of the receiver, though it's not specifically noted.

I'm still holding out for someone to set me straight, though.

Thanks for the welcome.  This is an awesome forum, full of useful information!

I use Loc Tite on base screws and the bottom of the rail itself, but not on the cap screws.

for your application you will have to mount the tall side to the rear. that will raise the barrel for making longer shots. if you mount it taller to the front it will lower the barrel and you will most likely run out of adjustment trying to sight in at long distance.

tall to rear
short toward muzzle

On my rifle the way I figured it out was the tall or thicker end mounting holes did not match the front mounting holes. It could only fit one way. Smart as a police dog.Bandito Just bought my first high powered rifle in a .308, EGW 1 pc. mount, Burris extreme tactical rings medium height and got a Super Sniper scope in the 10x42M. Next is to figure out all this sh*t and shoot it.

What's wrong with blue locktite? I can see why not to use red.

Yes this is correct and there is a recoil lug under the base that also goes to the front

I use the blue loctite on base screws always. The only negative thing I can think of with loctite is that it can stain bluing.
