I'm wanting to mount a 2X pistol scope on a Dan Wesson 38 I have and don't know if the extra charged fro the Leupold is worth it. I've used many Leupold's on my varmint rifles and generally liked them. I've never used a Burris but have heard that the quality is not what it once was with most manufacturing now occuring in China. This gun will only be used for casual target shooting. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Does anyone know if Burris is made in Communist China?  Is Leupold made in the United States?

I do not trust the quality of products made in Communist China.  MCS merchandise = Made in China Sh..

Some Burris scopes are made in the Philippines and assembled in the US, I don't know of any that are made in China, but they could be out there.

Leupold is now cagey about where their stuff is made - since it is now mostly made elsewhere but most still "assume" they are US-made.

I'd get the Burris, they seem to me to be better deals and plenty tough (and decent glass) whereas Leupold is expensive for what you get.

But maybe it's just me.

Thanks for the post.  If Burris is not made in a communist country, I will go with them.  Unfortunately, Communist China uses their trade with us to build up their war machine.

Since I started this thread I have bought a nice 2X Leupold for my Dan Wesson. In my thread, I stated that Burris used foreign materials at this point. I would like to clarify that statement. I also shoot benchrest rifle and use the BenchrestCentral.com as a valuable source of information. The people who use this site are the best and most informed shooters anywhere. There was quite a discussion going on a year ago concerning the quality of recent Burris products, most of it negative. Several people who are apparently in the optics industry said that Burris was now buying their lenses overseas and assembling them here in America. It was implied that they were being made in China. I'm explaining all this because I do not want to be responsible for putting lies on the internet and hurting reputable companies. My only Burris was a high end target model that I was less than thrilled with. It would not compare to my Leupold. Just my $.02 worth. Good shooting !!! Big Smile

I have both Burris and Leupold pistol scopes and the 2X Leo in particular. It is a solid scope along with the Burrris 2X. You made a good choice.

I looked at both as well as Nikon and Bushnell 3200.  I was looking at variables in 2-7x range.  It was for my Encore Pro Hunter in .243.  The "L" was too expensive and did not offer much over others.  I was not impressed with the Burris power ring or the varying eye relief.  Nikon had the same issues as Burris except for smoother ring.  The winner was Bushnell Elite 3200.  Great glass, build, power ring and no variance in eye relief and when you got the muzzle of the 243 (with the brake) in your face, you WANT eye relief.  Over 150 shots throught it, no issues.

BTW, this is the "newer" 3200 with the Turret (sp?) housing apparently glued on !!!

Where is it made? Who cares.  We are owned by foreign money anyway.

Most Burris scopes are made in the USA. If it says "Made in USA" on the scope eyepiece, it IS made here.

Both Leupold and Burris make good LER scopes.
I have used the 2x and 4x Leupold's, and the 2-7, 3-9, and 3-12 Burris all with good success.

for what it's worth... I've been to the factory and seen EXACTLY where the Burris Pistol scopes are made. Last year when we filmed our Elk Hunt in Colorado I spent a full day at the Factory. It was absolutely amazing. They even machine each little part... the rings, the mounts, all of it... I was really impressed. That's part of what makes me such a Burris fan... they are AMERICANS making gear for AMERICANS> if you guys would like me to put together a video of the plant and post it on here, I'd be glad to....
