Subject: EOTECH will NOT honor rebate!!

I bought an Eotech 557 with the 3x magnifier on December 21 from Cabela's on the promise of a $50 rebate.  Even the register automatically printed the rebate form when I paid.  I saw the same rebate advertised on many other stores and web sites.

Now.. I get a postcard from Eotech telling me that the will not honor the rebate.  That Cabela's and every other store was wrong in promising a rebate.  That because I bought the combo (557 with magnifier) I do not qualify.

Nowhere on the rebate form (the one from Eotech) does it say that combo units are excluded, and if they were, why would the stores tell us that we are were getting it?  That rebate certainly influenced my decision to buy.  The form says that if you buy a 557 you get a rebate.  I bought a 557.

I guess that Eotech doesn't really care about individual customers.  All they care about is their big military and agency accounts.

If $50 means so much to a big company like that, who make millions, imagine what it means to a regular guy like me.  They weren't even nice on the phone when I called them and did not apologize.

I'm very disappointed and will tell all my friends to stay away from Eotech products!

I don't think getting mad at EoTech is what you need to be doing, my beef would be with Cabelas for false advertising.

Many times these rebates are handled by third parties that look for any reason to kick them back.  I bet if you contacted EOTech direct they would take care of you.

If you bought it from us, you would already have your fifty bucks.

Ok you went to Cabelas and now your surprised that the guy that was selling shoes last week didnt know what qualified for the EOTech rebate, and you didnt initially read the EOTech offer carefully enough to dot the i's and cross the  t's.   I suggest you take it back - Return it to Cabelas they will let you do that.  Now since you are already unhappy with EOTech lets upgrade to Trijicon you will like the optic better and you can select a new one or you can select one off samplelist then mount it with a La Rue  RCO mount an be happy.

Samplelist.com  is part of SWFA and  has some awesome bargains often on display models that did nothing but sit in the cabinet at SWFA.  I do like the Trijicon ACOG and compact ACOG much better that the Aimpoint and EOTech  as its always on and no batteries but the size is right and just a little bit of magnification is all I really want so I prefer the  1.5x although I have a 3x and a 4x also but the  1.5X  is my favorite.

I was more less saying just buy what he needed from SWFA or samplelist.   Better yet let me generalize this.......ONLY BUY OPTICS AND OPTIC SUPPLIES FROM SWFA. (knowing samplelist.com is theirs as well)   Then you have the greatest CS around and support from an online forum of many quilfied optics experts, (which I am not calling myself)

My experience with Eothingy's CS is dated, but I've seen them go way beyond reasonable to satisfy customers.
Don't think your experience is indicative of the norm.

I'm definitely confused as to why the original poster is so upset at Eotech.  Like someone said above, the beef should be with Cabelas.

In any event, I think you should go to Cabelas and ask for a gift card for $50, and if they won't do that, then simply state that you'd like to return the scope....and then buy it from SWFA instead.  You'd probably get a better price, with or without the rebate from Cabelas.

Hey guys... Thanks for the replies!    BTW, Cabela's was not the only retailer offering this rebate.  Every retailer I checked was offering the same thing on this product.  And, no, there was no fine-print anywhere on EOTech's literature that said the combo units were excluded.

So... I went to Cabela's, and to my surprise, they gave me back $100 dollars!!  The Manager said that they got the rebate information from Eotech, they don't make it up.  He gave me back $100 because he said that there was a price drop on the item.  (I have not seen that anywhere)

Needless to say, I'm very happy with Cabela's.  They could have easily turned me away like EOTech did.  BTW... I called Eotech themselves, not a third party processing company for rebates.  They handle their own rebates and were not sympathetic at all with me.  They just didn't care to hear about it.

Well..... now I'm looking at the Trijicons and saving my money again for that next dream purchase.

I hope more companies realize that being good to their customers will build loyalty and improve their reputations.   I have nothing but great things to say about Cabela's after this...

Happy shooting!

I feel your pain!!!..........I bought a Eotech 3x magnifier and was expecting a $50 .00 rebate, what I got instead was a mass produced post card stating that my receipt was unreadable............This was a computer generated receipt that was perfect............The rebate was from Eotech itself not the retailer you bought the item from......So it would not had mattered if you bought it from SWFA, Cabela's or even Wal-Mart..............Rebates in general are a scam they ALWAYS find some way to screw you out of the money they owe...............

Wolverine is right, i used to try to get rebates on every
thing it's is a scam I don't care what they say, it's
just to get you to buy it, it's dishonest and it's common
practic.......If I do buy something and it has a rebate
I ussually toss is, because I've learned, and Now
I never buy an item because it has a rebate.......
Rip off city.......If they wanted you to have a rebate
they'd give it to you at the cash register.........
If they want to trick you into buying a product, then
laugh all the way to the bank, a mail in rebate is the way
to do it........from now on if you see the big rebate sign,
try looking at another company's product, that i'll teach 'em...

I've received all kinds of rebates on computer hardware and software, and all the companies offering the rebates sent them to me with no problem.  So, I don't agree that all rebates are a "scam."  I can't say I've ever had a company not honor their rebate unless I waited until after the rebate expired.  If a company doesn't honor the rebate it advertises, I would jump into their collective @sses with both feet, and I wouldn't stop until I'd talked to everyone up the chain of command up to and including the CEO.  BUT, you need to read the fine print to make sure the rebate applies to the terms of your purchase.

Trust me I called and talked to everyone at Eotech and it didn't make a difference......they keep saying resubmit the receipt............They required the original receipt when I submitted the rebate package and would not except a copy....................What kind of BS is that?..............I had another situation where I just ordered a new cell phone and was expecting a $100.00 rebate..........I of course never received it...................I called them at least 5 times before they just credited it to my account, only after I threaten to drop my service .............I cant tell you how many rebates I have sent in and NEVER EVER received or heard anything back.............Its all a big scam and you will never convince me other wise........................Roger

I have probably sent in over 20 rebates for various items and I have not once had and issue with any company.  From cell phones to knives to even a pair of sunglasses.... Waited and got a rebate check of gift card eventually for every single one.

That's standard for many things, including warranty repairs.  It proves you are the original purchaser.  I know it's a pain, but on all items that don't have unconditional, transferable lifetime warranty, you have to keep the receipt.

But, all is not lost, because if you know the approximate date you bought it, Cabelas can print you out a new receipt.  Just go to their Customer Service counter and give them all the pertinent info you know (date of purchase, credit card you used, if applicable, whether there were additional items you bought at the same time, etc.).  They keep a record of all transactions and can usually find the purchase with this info and print you a new receipt.  I've done this on more than one occasion at both Cabelas and Bass Pro.  Then, send Eotech the receipt, the bar code off the box the sight came in, and whatever else they say they require to get the rebate.  They have to protect themselves against people potentially trying to scam them, and you have to follow their rules.  Yes, it's a pain to have to jump through hoops to get your rebate, but if you follow all their stated procedures they lay out in "the fine print," they cannot legally refuse to honor their advertised rebate or they open themselves up to class action lawsuits and fraud charges.

I hate rebates as well.  I have had a lot of problems with companies not wanting to honor them either.  Having a computer business and working in IT I buy a ton of computer parts which means a ton of rebates.  I bet 50% of the ones I send in they will not honor for some reason or another.  Many of the ones I get is only because I call them and get extremely firm but decent on the phone.  The key is not to get mad, but just be firm and keep asking for supervisors.  At least that is how I have had some success.

From what I've experienced, I have had really good support from EOTech.  I have no idea about the rebate but it is not all that far-fetched that the rebate would not be valid when you buy the optic and magnifier together considering you are already getting something like a $100-200 discount anyways.  As for going with ACOG, in my opinion the EOTech with the magnifier will serve you better.  I was going to buy the ACOG (I was actually in the store) but I talked to a group of US Army 10th Mountain that were in there at the same time and I was told that most all of them had the ACOG but never put it on their rifle because the 4x magnification and the lack of batteries was not enough to compensate for the difficulty in getting a quick sight picture and they rarely took their EOTech off although they did admit that they felt like they were changing batteries constantly but never acted like it was that big of a problem.   Having the 2 piece set up gives you the best of both (however in a slightly bulkier package).

are you responding to the right post?........Did you even read this post?......I never said anything about an ACOG.......The rebate department, not customer support claimed they would not honor the rebate because the receipt was unreadable.......this was a perfect receipt!........Eotech stuff is great, Im just not happy they screwed me like everyone else does with the rebate scam.........

Welcome to the OT thorne & thanks for the heads up.

By the way SWFA sells EOTEC did any of you grasshoppers even call SWFA for a price comparison?
Next time you all want to buy a scope at least make a call to SWFA before you come ranting & raving about the compition wether positive or negative.

So what does price matching have to do with Eotec not honoring their own rebate?..........The rebate comes from the manufacture not SWFA.....

It just drives me crazy when people post and CLEARLY not even read what there posting to.  I was not "ranting or raving" about the price I paid for my optic as one member put it.  I was not comparing Eotech to trijicon as another member did completely out of nowhere.

My point is very simple:  Rabates are a scam!  It does not matter if I bought the Eotech 3x magnifier at SWFA or Wal-Mart.  I followed the directions perfectly and Eotech found a way to screw me out the $50.00 as I suspect they did to many others as well.  So again for those of you who are not going to read the entire post and respond anyway.

  • I am not "ranting or raving" about the price I paid for my Eotech magnifier, even if it was not purchased from SWFA like most of my other optics and mounts were.
  • I am very pleased with all Eotech items I own or have ever had the chance to test out.
  • I  would consider another another Eotech optic but not because it had a large rebate.
  • Are most rebates a scam?  Clearly YES and I am very disappointed with Eotech that they would pull the rebate scam.
