Just moved to Colorado, and to me it looks like private citizens can legally own a suppressor in this state.  I will give the sheriffs office a call to confirm, but anyone have any input on that?  Any catches or huge taxes or fees you have to pay to have one?

I have no real need for one, just always thought it would be kinda cool, and the new savage 10FCP with the HS Precision stock, 5R rifling, and threaded barrel looks pretty nice...

As far as tax.  The federal gobermint has a $200 tax stamp you have to buy for each NFA device/weapon.   Not sure what laws are in CO but a call to the local ATF office would be your best bet, not the sheriffs office.

+ .5   LOL

Like SVT said, ATF regulates suppressors; however there MAY be STATE laws that are even STRICTER. SO I'd call ATF as well as your Sheriff's Office.---Bboy623

... or "State DOJ". They regulate it here where I live.

The local ATF offices will have the criteria for the state they are in.

Here it's real simple, just call DOJ for state info. I did it last week for questions about changing out the "upper" to my AT-15 to another configuration. I can't speak for Colorado.

Most likely, just like in Texas, your application would have to be approved/signed by the local sherrif's office, on the top of going through an ATFE process. Sometimes a guy is a complete a**hole and you end up with nothing.

Check to see if Colorado allows a trust to own the suppressor. If they do then there is no sheriff or finger printing involved. It works this way in Oklahoma.
