I am looking at mounting a new Burris scope on my Beretta Mato rifle. The rifle is a 30-06, with the synthetic stock and is to be a general purpose rifle. The scopes that I am looking at are the Burris Signature Select in 3x10x40, the Euro Diamond in 3x10x40 or the Euro Diamond in 2.5x10x44. I am favoring the Signature Select, but do the Euro Diamonds offer anything extra in the way of ruggedness, clarity, resolution or brightness? I am going to mount the scope using Talley bases and rings, and I all ready have 1" Talley rings, so this is a point in favor of the Signature Select. I am a fan of Burris scopes, I have an old 3x9x38 Fullfield and a 3x9x32 Compact. I guess this similar to chosing between the LPS and the VXIII in the Leupold line or the PV series or AV series from Swarovski. What would you chose. I would appreciate any opinions on the matter.

Man, you have a great rifle!  I think all the scopes you mentioned would be a worthy addittion to the gun.  I would go with the 1" signature.  I personally don't care for 30mm scopes on anything but tactical rifles and heavy recoiling dangerous game rifles.  That is just my personal preference.  The 30mm scopes will be a little more rugged and I believe the Euro Diamond has a scratch proof/resistive finish on the lenses.

The 3-10x40 Signature Select and 3-1x40 Euro Diamond are virtually the same scope except for the obvious, one is 30mm.  Both scopes use the same quality glass and the same fully multi-coated lenses.  They are identical in the way of ruggedness, clarity, resolution and brightness.  The 30mm tube of the Euro Diamond gives you more adjustment travel and the Euro Diamond is also available with the German #3P reticle that would be handy for low light shooting.  Not really similar to comparing the LPS to VX-III because the LPS is a better scope.  Also not like a PH vs. the American Swarovski because the PH is more rugged and has more features.  The Swarovski do however share the same glass and coatings like the Burris.

So.......use your 1" rings and go with the Sig. Select.

Chris,

Thanks for the information.  I will be getting the Signature Select.  Burris charges a very reasonable $50 to change reticules if I want to get a 3#P, or heavy duplex, etc.  I am interested in the non Posi-Lock 3x10x40 model.  Does this model use two 7# bias leaf springs or one 15# bias coil spring in a small housing on the lower side of the turret.

Thanks.

Stan,

That scope has two 7.5lb leafs (one on each side) for a total of 15 lbs.  They do not offer the 3p#4 as a reticle change for the 3-10 Sig. Sel. for some reason.

Chris

As you know I ordered the Signature Select 3x10x40 on Monday.  I should be here on Friday.  It was a real pleasure talking to and doing business with you.  I can't wait to test the scope out this weekend. I'll let every one know how it works out.  Thanks again.
