I purchased some BVAC ammunition and got some weird results...
The factory claims to be 2550fps 150gr. .308 FMJ BT
The seller claims 2850fps.

Yesterday I shot at 200 and 400 yards with good groups but much higher than they should be. I refigured and my results at these distances I have muzzle velocity at 3000 fps.

SO. Is it normal to have ammunition performance that severely incorrect?

Give us more detail of your rifle. Is your barrel 4 inches longer than there test barrel? Is your barrel a "tight" barrel? Was the brass showing signs of over pressure? Was the bolt hard to open

IGK,

Just because this load is hitting higher than a different load (even with the same bullet), does not mean the load is any faster. You need to chronograph the load.

Aditionally, 2850 is easily attainable with a 150 gr. bullet in the .308. 2550 would be quite slow.

Its a cold hammer forged ceramic coated/lined 20" barrel, 1:10 twist
70F, Alt 950', 80% humidity, unsuppressed

I used a ballistic solver and figured drop for 2550 (factory claim) and 2850 (retailers claim)
and using the same ballistic solution program I figured roughly 3000fps by a comparison using the known distances and POA/POI I logged at the range.

I have not had the oppertunity to chrono these rounds... yet.

No signs of anything irregular in the way it fired or extracted.
