Thanks for sharing that story with us.  My Dad never was much of a rifle shooter, but I do have his old Marlin 30-30 and hunt with it at least once each year.  In his later years he bought a Browning BLR in 243 (Belgian made).  My 14 year old son has that rifle, and used it to kill his first deer.  It just doesn't get any better than that.
