What is a laser designator?  How does it differ from a laser sight?  How is it best combined with other sights?

A laser designator, in the civilian world, is a flashlight with a laser light source rather than a traditional incandescent bulb or an LED bulb.

These are nice because the beam stays very well contained and focused.

I have the older version of the ND3 light and it works well for hogs. They have made improvements over the years AND the price has come down.

It is, as stated, a light source, not an aiming device, so yes, it requires a scope or open sites for aiming.
