I just got my first Rangefinder(Leupold RXi-1200 tbr)

I want to test the accuracy of the rangefinder

I thought about using a football field but that would only test at short range.

How do you test your laser rangefinders for accuracy?

First step is you have to have enough area… out to the advertised range.  You must make EXACT measurements.  You must have targets representative of your intended targets… if you don't the measurements are not worth much.  You must understand that some LRF measurements are made against "real world" targets, some are made against "reflective" targets… It is difficult to find a full scale deer, elk, moose target, but it is doable in many instances.  Reflective targets are generally as simple as highway reflectors.  It is long and detailed to fully characterize a LRF… but it can be done with patience and determination.  Don't let the desire to "get it done" override the integrity of the process.
