Subject: Illuminated dial?

Howdy fellas, prior to season opening this year I traded my nightforce NXS for a vx6 3-18x50 with a fire dot Plex and cds moa dial . It is in my opinion an excellent long range hunting optic. The only problem I have is when hunting from a box(dark) on low to very low light I can't see the dial. Is there any option for illuminated dial or tritium inlay . I have tried to use a small light covered by my hand and have only succeeded in spooking game. The optics are more than capable of accurate shooting if only I could see to dial. I can count clicks but that must be done slowly to in sure accuracy. Any help is appreciated.

I would think the range that needs to be dialed in would not spook game.

I do not know of an illuminated turret.
An illuminated reticle in an ffp with a Christmas tree reticle does very well in that circumstance.

I fall into the same line of thinking as RC. Set your PBR for the size of the animal your hunting at the most common range your going to encounter and be done with it.

Wouldn't a "blacklight" flashlight or penlight work in this application?

Red or green pen light is the ticket here.

We use Browning head lamps that have red, blue and two white choices. The unit uses the CR13 batteries and work great.

I appreciate the in put fellas I will look in to a red or green light source even considering a bow sight light. My rifle is zeroed at 300yds and a 400yd shot only requires a top of back hold . It is when the shots are upwards of 450 that things get squirrelly and dialing is required. The trick is to not spook game and Louisiana deer wilder than any in any other state I have hunted.

My vote is for a small red light. Deer see Blues and UV well. Some greens and yellows too.

It's a hack solution, but could you tape a small red LEDkeychain light to the scope tube just behind the turret? That would put the light where you need it without you having to move much.

You are taking very low light 450 yard shots?
How many deer have you lost?

Sitting in a blind or a shady spot, it doesn't have to be very dark out to make the turret markings difficult to see clearly.

I believe RC may be questioning 450 yard shots at low light! I don't care if they are crazy Louisiana deer or my deer in northern NY they will not see your light at 450 yards.

In developing film and printing photos I used to use glow in the dark tape to mark things within the darkroom. It is not self illuminated like tritium but it glows for a long time after lit.

The other possible is small light sticks

Bow hunting you are up in a ladder stand and the deer dont look up. With a box blind where they tend to knock you off is if you are backlit by a window and they see the movement in front of the window behind you so cover the back window with something that blocks light leaving the front and side windows open.

Hunting varies a lot by state. Here in Iowa they push deer they post people at certain places they expect the deer to run past then have a group of guys who walk through the woods and spook the deer out the other side.  We get a few hunters shot doing this stupid stuff every year. I much prefer the bow hunting here.

I understood that. I was suggesting that even if it's still light enough to shoot at 450 yds, there might not be enough light where he's sitting to see the turret markings clearly.

I can not see my feet while hunting the first and last 15 min of each day in the stand but I can clearly see a deer against the rye grass that is planted in the lane. It is the dial that is difficult to see
As for as how many deer have I lost at long range? I lost the first in 5-6 years this year and it was at about 275yds and all my fault rushing a shot at a deer crossing the lane while I was reading a text from my wife. I figured what's the point in having a bright scope suitable for low light conditions and an illuminated reticle .

Glow in the dark paint might help you out.
