Hi all. I wanted to get a consensus. I have an SS 3-9x. It's my "nicest" scope. And it's the only one of its type that I have ever seen, so I do not know if this is normal or what. And if not normal, would it bother anyone else enough to consider sending it back for service. The scope works just fine of course. This is purely and aesthetic issue. As you can see, the indicator marks are off by about 30% on this elevation turret assy.

Or is this something the owner could fix himself? I know from zeroing it that the turret goes onto a gear, so you cannot adjust play like is possible with the SS scopes that have set screws. I'm not sure SWFA would advise an owner to fiddle with this type of mechanism.

I'm just thinking that for a scope of this price and supposed quality, the indicator marks should line up.

My SS 3-9x settings are dead nuts lined up.

Thanks. Good to know.

For what it's worth, I'm not the first person to find the condition objectionable. This reviewer noticed it on an SWFA 5-20x he'd reviewed a number of years ago.

I will contact SWFA directly at some point and see if it's fixable. It's not the kind of problem that requires a full replacement, this being a minor cosmetic situation. But if it's a mechanical fix, or if it can be corrected by swapping on a different turret, that would be nice. I hate the idea of pulling the scope out of its mount to send it in just for this. We'll see.

The stencil wasn't aligned exactly when the turret was marked. Usable but irritating. SWFA may have a stock of replacement turrets and only the cap needs to be replaced???? Call in and check. That is a nice scope. Good Luck.

I’ve had that happen, it is an annoyance, but the scope is good enough to offset.

SWFA might be able to address it.

Thanks guys. I'll call them at some point to see how easily it might be resolved. The scope works great and I don't want to yank it all part and send it in just for this. I'll wait for a more opportune time of year. I do my target shooting out in the desert, so summer is generally not shooting season for me.

FWIW, I had a similar issue with a Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x scope. The offset with that one was just at the elevation cap.  I discovered that when I swapped the windage cap onto the elevation turret the hash marks lined up perfectly, thus proving it was just the marks on the elevation cap and nothing else being wrong. I sent the scope back to Vortex and they fixed the issue quickly.

But I cannot recall at the moment if I performed this same experiment with my SS 3-9x yet. Guess it's going on my to-do list now.

The turrets are marked differently on the 3-9x so that may not be optimal for you.

I've noticed it on mine and thought, yeah, it'd be nice to have them just right. But it's never bothered me in actual use.

Just to check it out I pulled off the turret cap and had a look. The mechanic in my wonders if it'd just be a case of reaching in there with a Park Tools spanner and giving this piece a slight turn one way or the other. But I don't even know if that outer brass component turns with the inner/knob component. So for the time being all I can do is put it back together.

And before anyone says anything, No, I'm not actually going to play around with this stuff! I have no idea how it all works. Wouldn't want to break a seal, or worse, break the elevation mechanism.

I do like this scope a lot and intend not to break it. It was helping me hit a 10" gong last week from 500 yds with my 5.56mm rifle.

Does the windage turret do it also?

Pardon me if you've said already.

My elevation turret looks just like the OP's.  Off the mark.

No worries. I don't think I talked about it. But the windage is slightly off too I guess, if looking at it straight on. Doesn't really bother me though since it's normal to look at that turret from slightly above. And from that angle the lines match up perfectly. Smile

I think one of mine is slightly off, but it never even occurred to me to send it in.  It works great and does not bother me in the slightest.

Thank you everyone for your input! I may call them some day to ask about it. May not. Mine sounds like a typical example then, and it does function very nicely. Does exactly what it's supposed to do.
