Just picked up a VX 6 2-12x42 from a competitor at a huge discount. It's kind of a funky extra fine german #4 retical with breaks in the ultra fine crosshairs and a black dot in the middle. Retical seems like it will be worthless without the firedot on. The scope also has metric turrets. 1 click = 1cm. Kinda weird. Anyone seen one of these models? I'm assuming it was made for the european market?

A couple questions on the scope. Sorry in advance if these are stupid things to ask.

Should the scope be clear at high powers at close range? Tried to zoom up to 12 power and view something 20 feet away and it was completly blury. Anything over about 5 power and the scope starts to get blury.

The dot in the center of the retical is black and then illuminates red when you turn on the firedot. At lower powers the black dot in the center doesn't illuminate evenly so it doesn't look like a round dot if that makes sense.

I also get massive amounts of red light reflecting around the outside of the ocular lense if i turn the scope way up in low a lit room. Almost like the whole inside of the scope is glowing red. I do not get this in my far less expensive VXR Patrol. Full disclosure the scope isn't mounted on a rife so could be because my head isn't directly behind the scope?

Are these things normal?

You are turning the dot up way to much. Its made to be used in low light, just a little light is all thats needed. There is no way to focus that scope at 20 yards so being blurry at high mag that close is normal.

I realize that it's not meant to be turned up high. I juat dont notice the red glow inside the entire scope on my VXR patrol even when i do that.

I guess I'm a little sceptical about the "metric" version. I bought it from a reputable dealer but just want to make sure i didn't get an inferior product to a standard VX 6

You can always call Leupold and while you're at it see if it's a genuine or not by providing them the serial number.

I am not aware of a metric version of VX-6 unless they made something for the European market.  However, last time I saw one in Europe, it still had 1/4 MOA clicks.
Also, the #4 reticle I remember seeing in a VX-6 does not look like what you are describing.  Can you post a picture of it?

I think it's referred to as the german #4 fine. I have decided I'm going to send the scope back. Even at the deal I got it at there are just too many things that irk me about it. The recital is way to fine and the crosshairs completely disappear on any kind of a busy back ground. combine that with the fact that the dot doesn't light up cleanly and the CM click adjustments and it's just too many things that bug me.
