Here's a buck I killed Saturday afternoon. He was chasing a doe and snort-wheezing at nearby bucks. I watched him for about 15 minutes as he was filtering through the brush, not offering me a shot opportunity. Finally, he came out of the brush and stood broadside at 120 yards from me, and I took the shot at 5:30 pm. He was a really heavy-bodied buck by Texas standards, dressing out at 150 lbs. I was shooting a custom lightweight 6.5 Creed with the Pierce Ti action I built last year that I posted pics of here. My handload was using Jason's Badlands Precision 125 gr Bulldozer bullet, which shoots really well out of the rifle.

Nice buck Rifle, congrats.   What part of TX?    I'm heading out Wednesday for a weeks worth.

Thanks! King County, just south of Paducah.

Good luck on your hunt!

In a couple weeks, I’ll be doing the same; spending 9 days hunting. I have another place NE of Matador in Motley Co and another in NE TX in Hunt County that I’ll go to to fill remaining tags.

I hope he shows up in daylight for you Sarge! Eventually, the ladies cause him to throw caution to the wind. You just have to hope he does so while you’re at the right place at the right time.

Hopefully he didn’t lose any more points between then and now. I’m heading out in the morning. Forecast says 25. Great for hunting but miserable as hell for sitting in a stand.

Come on Ted, tell us the truth; you shot some rancher's cow and stuck some antlers on it.
 Nice buck Ted.

That's pretty deer, Ted.  I've seen very few that nice in northern Alabama.

Got my second buck of the season Sunday afternoon 11/24 right before dusk. I killed this one in Motley County, TX, northeast of Matador, near the Middle Pease River. The rifle I used on this hunt was the Barrett Fieldcraft in 7-08, topped with a Swaro Z3 3-9X36, using Jason's 145 gr Badlands Bulldozer bullet.

Sorry for the poor quality photo. I just took a hasty cell phone pic of him in the dark, as I had a lot of work ahead of me that eve with field dressing then packing up all my gear in preparation to leave for my other hunting lease the next morning.

Well done Ted, I am envious. What was the weather like during your hunt. We had a bitch of a time this year at our camp. Heavy snow moving in then the temp fell to the teens mid- week. OK for me walking but pretty frigid for the watchers.

Weather was beautiful! Clear skies, no wind (or not much wind), temps ranging from 45-60 deg F (7-15 C) that day.

Ya'll got it all mixed up................. A 4x4 is what you drive in and load your 8 pointer!! Its like some guys say "I got a 8 pointer that was 18" inside". Why short the width with inside measure?? If you say it is 18" spread and you cut a 18" circle in a board, if the rack won't go thru the hole it must be more than 18"............

Just sayin........Wink
