I'm not sure, but based on the joking nature of this guy's whole site, I believe this video was just a gag.

I don't know a whole lot about some of these hunts. But I believe in this case he was supposed to shoot an 8pt or less. Some outfitters have substantial fees if you go over. Some of these hunts are points based and this guy was already paying $8k for an 8 and screwed up.

He shot a bigger animal than he was supposed to.  Most likely he was on a management hunt where he was intended to shoot a deer in the 140-150 class range. The video even suggests that the outfitter had earlier showed him the specific deer he was supposed to take. He ended up shooting a different deer; one that will likely score well above 180 and would have brought in a lot of money ($12,500?) to the rancher/outfitter.  That particular deer was probably being held in reserve for a wealthy, repeat client and now will be unavailable.

This is just one reason why I disapprove of ranch "hunts" where the fee is based on the animal's score.  Hunting should always be a fair-chase prospect.

Not only that but if Parks and Wildlife look at that and figure it's more than 30 min after sunset - he's going to have some expaining to do. The dollar value of the deer is interesting. I know what thats like to get a 180+ deer in front of you. Ive sailed arrows right over the backs of two of them in the last couple of years and passed one up during shotgun season 4 yrs ago that was probably over 250 - had points everywhere,   he was too close to a house. My 15 yr old has three 180+ deer on the wall.
