Looking to purchase a new scope for a new AR. Looking at the Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15x44 FFP mil or the SWFA SS 3-15x42 FFP mil. Most shooting to 300 yards. Some shooting out to 600 or 800 yards.

I have not yet seen a Gen II PST, but between my son and me we have 2 3-15 SS scopes. His is mounted to a Savage model 10 in a Choate Machine stock that is a due everyrhing rifle. I.E., it goes hunting, long range practice, rides around a lot in the pickup. Gets dialed out to 900yd pretty routinely(when az isn't under fire restrictions).
Mine has always been on my back-up rifle. It has seen a couple of PRS style matches while mounted on a 7-08. Ranges varied from the muzzle to 1100 for score. It then got moved to my first match rifle (a 300WSM that had great ballistics, but recoil was an issue in match scenarios), and the 7-08 became a 6.5 Creed, and now wears my 5-20SS.
Both have flat out performed without a hiccup. The glass is really good, but not great. It is better than the GenI PST of all varieties though. Knobs are crisp and easy to read, and there are aftermarket available shim-style zero stops for them. I do wish they had 10mil/turn, but I am spoiled by my other scope...
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I have only Diamondback HP 4-16x42 but I do not see the difference between Meopta 4-16x44 vs. Vortex HP 4-16x42 in day! My eyes are good. ☺ At night, Meopta has better light transmission, but it is not a big difference. Narrow field of view, but I bought a great objective.*

If Gen II has a better image ...

Colleague Polish has SS 16x42 and Delta Titanium 4-16x42 is brighter.

If the SS 3-15x42 has the same glass ...

I apologize, I used the google translator

Edit: * The quality of the objective is probably not constant, dark image, blurred image, distortion ...

I bought the PST Gen II 3-15. My last "nice" scope was a 20 year old Nikon Monarch. The PST is much clearer than that old Nikon. I was surprised at the brightness and clarity. I plan on getting my hands on a SS in the future to compare. Happy shooting and looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
