Anyone know how well the various quick-detatch mounts return to zero? Of Larue, GG&G, and A.R.M.S. does any one outshine the others? Is there any inherent benefit to using a mount, as opposed to separate rings, other than they're permanently aligned with each other and won't torque the scope tube?
What about a semi-permanent mount like the SS s.s.a.l.t.? How viable would it be to remove it every time you cased a gun? Wear on the picatinny rails or tension screws a problem? How tight IS 40 in/lbs, finger tight or wrench down tight (ft/lbs I know, in/lbs....go fish). Later 2tonic ~~ (__(@)______))) |

2Tonic, I have investigated QD Mounts a while ago. In the end I purchased the QD's made by Leupold. They worked very well and returned to about 1/2 inch to original POI. So for hunting purposes I believe they will work fine.
The more expensive QD's may work better. I still do not trust a QD enough to take it off, then remount and go hunting. I would allways want to check the zero.
However, only one or two rounds would suffice.
I still have my QD on a 300 H&H, but hardly ever remove the scope, so it has become more of a fixed mount.

I've had great luck with LaRue, but always re-verify zero.

Well, that is a question only you can answer.
I have removed a scope mounted in normal rings on a Rem700 action. The rifle had to go to the smithy. I marked the scope position with masking tape around the tube and on the ring, and then made corresponding witness marks. I removed the bases also but did not disturb the windage screws.
When the rifle came back I placed everything back as before and I was less then a 1/2 inch off zero. So for a once in a blue moon scope removal there are other options.
