I have a couple of older Redfield scopes and wanted to know what the board's opinion of them is. I understand that the company went belly up and the newer offerings are of lesser quality than the older ones.
I have a 1992 or so Redfield Illuminator 3X9X42 and a early 80's Redfield Widefield 3X9. The scopes have given me excellent service, no problems to date. Are these the top-of-the-line scopes from Redfield? How does their quality compare to other top line scopes such as Leupold?
The 3X9X42 is particularly bright and is mounted on a 1976 Remington 700 30.06.
The older 3X9 Widefield is mounted on a Ruger .270 M77. It has held up well with no problems to date.
I am considering replacing the older widefield model, but looking through it tonight it is still very bright and I wonder if "modern" scopes are any better.
Thanks in advance

The Redfield Widefield was one of Redfield's better scopes at that time. I had one up on a Remington .30-06, and it worked fine. Today's scopes are better and brighter, however. That's why I "traded up" and no longer have that scope. |
