forgive me if this is a stupid question. i picked up a box of 150gr partitions for my 270. i had a box of 150gr corelokt so i sighted in my rifle with the corelokt. thinking it should be close i shot a couple partitions. had to do a bit of readjusting and went thro half a box of partitions sighting in. is there a way i can find out what cheaper bullet will shoot similar to these noslers so i wont waste so many sighting in? would i just look at the ballistics charts for bullets and whatever is identical or real close should shoot pretty much the same? again sorry if this is dumb question. kinda new at this

Why do you want to keep changing ammo?
My suggestion is to buy several boxes of ammo from the same lot number if you can find them at one time and sight in using that and hunt using that. Another thing to keep in mind is that if this is a typical hunting rig you are using make sure you are giving adequate time between shots to account for the barrel heating up. I typically don't fire more than 2 shots at a time with my hunting rifle before giving it a while to cool back to cold bore.

I'd find some in your budget that your gun liked, would group 2 or 3 together. then buy up some of that kind. When testing ammo, store bought, I don't worry about where on target my 2 or 3 are hitting as long as they are together. Once I pick my ammo then I adjust to get the groups dead center but for testing I don't care about where they hit only that they hit together. |
