Hey Folks,

I've decided I want a pair of range finder binocs. I was going to go with Swarovski because of their reputation for optics but it occurred to me that I should look at the offerings from Zeiss and Leica.

Apart from the differences in the actual range finder how do the optics compare in the range finder models?

Thanks for the help!

I'm partial to the Swaros due to the greater eye relief, but you won't be disappointed optically with any of them. The toughest test for them is a prairie dog town. Not much to range on there. A year ago I got to use the 10x Swaros in a dog town and they worked great....much better than any dedicated range finder I've tried.

Vortex has a new one coming out too, that I bet will be pretty nice.  The Fury $1300ish i believe

I own the Zeiss.  Optics are amazing, I have ranged over 2000 yards with them.  An elk over 1700 yards.  So the range finder works well.

I owned the older Leica and the optics were amazing.  The range finder was good but slow and much shorter distance than the Zeiss.  The new Leica however from the little use I have with it is amazing all around.  If I were to buy a again, it would be that one.

The Swaro is also optically outstanding and ranges well.  But I just personally like the Leica and Zeiss better.  They just fit my face better.

I would really consider the Vortex in this category. I have not owned any of the ones being discussed, but have friends that do. And the electronics are always the part that fails. Vortex is stating that their whole unit (glass and electronics)will have their lifetime warranty.
