I know many of us can go to our local sporting goods stores and compare directly whatever scopes they got. SWFA is the only distributor of the SS line, and many others and myself cant go and directly compare them to other glass. So if some people would please rate in comparison to some common scope MODELS you would find. Leupold, Nikon, Bushnell, Zeiss, so on and so forth.
Please keep it to the glass, I dont think there is any question of durability or repeatability of the SS line. (But if some people just want to argue and get in fist fight make sure you record it so we can put it on youtube, and everyone can enjoy it)

IMO the original SS has glass not quite as good as the Bushnell 4200 line. The new HD has glass as good as pretty much any tactical scope with exception of the real high end scopes. I feel my HD is as good as my IOR glass. To me that says it is pretty darn good.

Comparing a SS 10x with a bushnell elite 3200, the SS was the clear winner. When put against a 4200 I think there was a slight margin of victory to the 4200 not much but a little (but keep in mind the adjustment range and durablity still makes me want the SS over the 4200). I haven't compared the hd glass so i will not comment.

Original SS is probably somewhere around 4200 glass, maybe not quite as sharp.
SS HD I'd put around Nightforce glass, maybe slightly better, probably in the ballpark of IOR but not quite there, very close though. I compared the SS HD to a Mk4 (both 10X) and the HD smoked the Leupold, no contest: better resolution, better contrast, easy to tell the winner in that one. |

I haven't looked through an HD but the SS 3-9 glass was as good as my NF.
