I have the Viper HD 10X42's and have been thinking of upgrading to Swaro, Zeiss, etc., but have decided not to spend that kind of money. My question is, are the Razor HD 10X42's optically twice the money better than the Viper HD's? I am also considering the Meopta Meostar HD and Zeiss Conquest HD as well. I guess the question should be are any of these enough of an upgrade to warrant the purchase?

No. When u start getting into nice optics, twice the money may only give u a 5% increase in optical quality.
I have a pair of meopta meostars and a pair of zeiss victory. Retail the zeiss are 3 times more than the meostars. But optically they are closer than one would think. The victories are better but not 3 times better. |

I didn't think the the Razor HD was that much better than the Viper HD. I by far liked the Zeiss Conquest HD better than both of the Vortex. I haven't had a chance to compare them to the Meostar HD. The Vortex are certainly good enough, and with their warranty, never a bad decision.

I would answer your questions
NO and YES, in the order they were asked. I haven't looked through the Conquest HD's yet, but I can tell you that the Meopta is a *very* nice set of binoculars. Another great step up in quality is the Nikon SE, which although are less costly than the Meopta, are not waterproof like the Meoptas. The Swarovski Habicht 8x30W would also be a step up. They cost less than the Razor, and about the same as the Meopta. |
