I am wanting to purchase a decent quality pair of binoculars for football viewing (upper deck of large stadium). Compact with relatively wide view angle seems desirable, I suppose also weather-resistant. This will most likely be the sole function of the binoculars.
Browsing through some of the online stores something along the lines of Steiner's Wildlife Pro 8.5x26 seems like an attractive option (at least to someone who knows as little as I). If anyone would be willing to offer an opinion or other suggestion, I would be very welcome to hear it. The Steiner's I mentioned run around $280-- that's probably around the most I'd like to spend. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer. Mike |

Mike,
I just purchased the Leupold Katmai in 6x32mm roof prism for my wife. It is a compact and also comes in 8x32mm and 10x32mm. For the money it is an excellent little, lightweight binocular with very good optics and optical coatings/FMC. It will be brighter than the Steiner 26mm and the price starts around $290 for the 6x. They are even available in colors: black, brown (10x only), and natural. The 6x has a wide Field of View at 425 feet, or 8.1 degrees, and you won't be disappointed with these at a football game. BTW, I tested them against the Minox BD 8x44 BP porro prism. I was going to get the Minox for myself but I couldn't get use to the diopter adjustment within the center focus wheel, so I sent them back. The Minox was even better than the Leupold, but, was also $150 extra. The Minox was well worth the money. Edited by Bird Watcher |
