Because I live in the people's republic of Kalifornia, I can't easily buy a Glock with MOS.

Since I have been looking at a lot of compact reflex sights lately, I was also looking at a few different ways of mounting them on semi-auto handguns.

Here are the first couple of posts on the subject:

I'll be posting a few links here and there to the red dot sight reviews as well.

I just machined a mounting seat (RMR) directly into my slide.

Another slide showing machined mount seat before refinishing slide:

That works really well, but I wanted to be able to change red dot sights.  Machining for a specific model limits you to that model.  That's why I got the slide from Unity Tactical.

I am still considering getting an extra slide for my 10mm Glock and have it set-up for a specific reflex sight with co-witnessing and all.

Also consider Lone Wolf, they sell slides of a custom or factory configuration.

I tried to buy an Atom slide long ago, long wait, I chose the wrong vendor; ended up getting a 34 MOS and really like it.  The factory Glock interface accepts a few red dot options.

What is the need for the clutch belt?

Red dots on pistols, by the way, take MUCH more training than most people anticipate in becoming proficient.  The more pistol training one has had with a traditional sights gun, the more work it takes to retrain/cross-train.

And yes, a pistol is an okay choice for home defense, but far from ideal.  Fight with what you have available, but consider making something more available, something that ends fights faster.

The 10mm slide is from Lone Wolf.  I will likely get one more and have it custom cut for a specific red dot, probably DocterSight, since I can make it compatible with a couple of other sights, like the MeoRed, Fastfire, Venom, etc.

The slide that I currently have that has the picatinny rail is the solid top version which is heavy like a brick.  It functions with everything well, as long as I use a very heavy recoil spring.

I want to make another version with a lighter slide and, possibly, lighter spring.  Since LoneWolf made another version of a long 10mm barrel (US made this time), that would be the one to try.  I also have a 6" 357Sig barrel for this gun.

On the Clutch belt: there is no need, but I am curious how well it works.  I am experimenting with different carry methods and I have not tried anything like the Clutch belt.  I think the idea has merit.  One interesting use is to have the belt set up and available to be put on at a moments notice already populated with all the relevant stuff.

On something more potent than a handgun: I do have something set-up and available in the house.  However, considering the layout of my house, a handgun is the first tool to go to.

Hey Ilya, if you're wanting to get another 10mm slide, I have a new, unused Lone Wolf 20LS solid top that I would be willing to part with for cheap.

Thanks, Ted. 20ls is what I currently have. I am thinking of making this second slide lighter. Unless you have the means to have it machined, it might not work to well.

Yes, I do indeed have the means.Wink

Depending on what you would want done, of course.

I thought you might...

I do not need anything terribly exotic, as you may imagine, and I am open to suggestions.

The LS20 is a very beefy slide, so I simply want it a little lighter and I want to mill a mount in it that accomodates both Docter and Meopta red dot sights (they have the same basic footprint, with four small locating posts, but the screw holes are in different locations), since I have both of those and planto test Docter's new DocterSight G later in the year.

From making the slide lighter standpoint, a few cutouts a long the lines of what you did in the second picture you posted would probably work fine for my purposes without compromising my ability to grip the slide when needed.

Are you planning any trips over this way anytime soon?

If I had a sample of the Docter and Meopta sights in-hand, I can reverse engineer the mounting dimensions and see if it's practical to machine a mount seat that could accommodate both. If not, maybe there's a way to machine a sub-plate that works with the mount seat to adapt one in recess designed to accept the other.

At any rate, what you're wanting is easily doable.

I have a mount adapter plate that adapts Meopta sights to use with Docter mounts. I can easily send you the adapter plate with or without the sights.

I am taking a rifle class at the end of next week, so I need the Docter sight for that. The adapter plate and the MeoRed I can send you any time.

So, if I were to build a 10mm, what lower is needed? I have a 22, will that work?

I believe you would need a 45auto sized lower like the 21, the 21sf might be a good choice.  the 22 .40 cal has the shorter narrower grip like the 9mm.

edited my wording

Yes, I think that is right. I can move my 22 down to 9mm or 357Sig but cannot go up to 10mm.
I might have to go with a 45 lower and work toward a 10mm long slide.

Damn, and I thought I didn't need anything else!

10mm and 45ACP use the same frame, so you can use a large frame Glock or simply get a 1911 appropriately chambered.

Mine started life as Glock 21SF.  I quickly sold the slide/barrel assembly and we were off to the races.

Since Glock 40 is a Gen 4 design, I could not easily get my hands on it in the PRK.  My 10mm build is almost exactly the same size though and uses the same holsters.

Interestingly, it shoots 40S&W just fine and Lone Wolf makes an adapter barrel for 357Sig which also works great.  With the 40S&W out of a 10mm barrel, the case does not headspace on the mouth, so if I shoot a lot of 40S&W, I clean the chamber before switching back to 10mm.  Theoretically, you could have enough fouling build up to prevent proper headspacing with the longer 10mm case.
